My bad experience at volkshochschule Perchtoldsdorf On 4 Feb 2016, I checked the internet for German courses on "volkshochschules" in the area where I live. There were a few but the only one that offered German classes for beginners in the morning (while my kids are at school) was the one at Perchtoldsdorf. On Feb 7th, my husband, who is a Geman native speaker, sent them an e-mail to inform that I would come to visit the school on the next day to register for the course. This was in the case the school secretary did not spoke English. On Feb 8th, the following day, I went to school and as my husband had predicted the secretary spoke only German, with a few words of English here and there. She told me she had just replied to my husband's e-mail, so she printed me a copy and told me that I should not register for the course. Instead, I should come back on Tuesday, Feb 16th at 10AM (she also wrote that on her e-mail). By the way, she pointed out to me that the information they had posted on their web site was wrong. The course had been advertised as Donnerstag (Thursday), 10:15-11:30. According to her, the correct info was Dienstag (Tuesday), same time. That should have been my first clue. So, today, Feb 16th I was there, at the school, at 10AM, exactly as I was requested to do so, ready to take my first German lesson. I went to the office and met a secretary, not the same one who I had met on Feb 8th. This one did spoke English. She asked me to follow her and went around a bit only to find out that the teacher I was supposed to meet today was not there. We went back to her office and she tried to reach the teacher on the phone but did not succeed. Then she checked her computer and told me the teacher would not be coming because there was no one registered for the course! That was it! She then informed me that the day/time the next course would take place, but since it was in the afternoon it would not suit me. Nobody bothered to drop my husband an e-mail to let us know in advance. Needless to say I was upset and disappointed on the lack of organization and respect for people's time. Not only I wasted my time and gasoline going there this morning but I also did not look for another German course. Which I will have to now do in a hurry since the semester starts this week! Had I been warned about the possibility the course would be cancelled last minute this would not have had happened. Had someone taken a few minutes to write me/my husband an e-mail I would not have wasted my time travelling back and fourth this morning. So, I can only say I am very disappointed with the volkshochschule at Perchtoldsdorf.
