The Artsy Café Ingeborg Bachmann Café Ingeborg Bachmann in Klagenfurt is a nice art-café and named after the famous Ingeborg Bachmann, the Klagenfurt-born Austrian writer and one of the greatest poet and prose author of the German-speaking area (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) in 20th century. The prestigious annually awarded Ingeborg Bachmann prize, aka Festival for German-Language Literature, which is one of the most important prizes of German literature conducted annually since 1976, is named in honor of Ingeborg Bachmann. We had delicious juice and coffee here at the Café Ingeborg Bachmann, or just at Café Ingeborg as the locals say, which is an institution in Klagenfurt and definitely not one of the typical touristy places you find in the old town. But since it is located on the edge between the old town of Klagenfurt (City Center) and the neighboring mostly residential inner districts, you can experience the true Klagenfurt feel more pure than in the touristy old town. But it is in very close walking distance to the Lindwurm, as Klagenfurt is quite compact and not prone to urban sprawl at all. So everything worth to see is in walking distance here in Klagenfurt and so is the Café Ingeborg. The Café Ingeborg Bachmann is small but nice and is decorated very artsy and even featuring a great patio comfortable to sit in, providing a marquee to shield off the sun. By the way, for the weather, in other words for the season, I would recommend to visit Klagenfurt between April and early October, as in the fall and winter months Klagenfurt is notoriously famous for its dense fog, which covers the city feelingly for ages, very rarely clearing up, once it has embraced the city. The reason for that phenomena lies in Klagenfurt's topography, located in a basin and a lake close by, the famous Wörthersee. Therefore the Klagenfurt-natives, are also known as Nebelkinder (The Children of Fog). This much I know from my own experience and from the testimonial of my Klagenfurter relatives and friends. So this is nothing to be afraid of, but to be considered when you enter Klagenfurt during the cold half of the year. The people of Klagenfurt, like the folks from all pockets of the state of Carinthia, are known all over Austria and even to Germans and Swiss, for their very cute Austrian-German-accent, which sounds very lyrical and melodic. Maybe that's the reason for Ingeborg Bachmann beautiful poetry. With Love! Dr. Dr. Immanuel Fruhmann
